Ethnographic Museum of Istria

Pazin-Pisino

Do you want to know more about the everyday life of Istria in the past, but also in the present? Are you interested in different ways of life in certain parts of the Istrian peninsula? In that case, the Ethnographic museum of Istria is the place you’re looking for. The museum’s permanent collection and its various exhibitions show how the inhabitants of Istria used natural resources and how everyday culture has developed over decades and centuries.

As this culture still, to some extent, defines the life of the people in Istria, they are involved in a number of activities and projects of this county museum, which is thus in constant dialogue with the local communities. Their representatives also participate in popular workshops held for visitors during the summer. In the workshops, you can learn how to make certain traditional objects, but also how to dance balon (also called balun, traditional dance) - because it is the best way to get to know and understand the local culture.

The museum also manages the Istrian centre for Intangible culture in Pićan, which offers films, sound recordings and texts about this as-pect of culture that permeates all segments of (traditional) life.
