Batana Ecomuseum
Rovinj-Rovigno
Based on the principles of knowledge and appreciation of the continuity and dialogue of culture and heritage, inclusion and interdisciplinarity, Batana Ecomuseum with its programmes explores, evalutes, transmits, interprets, recreates and present the rich maritime heritage of Rovinj. The Eco-museum implements its activities through principal elements:
1. The House of Batana, local title muòstra, the central interpretation and documentation centre with a permanent exhibition;
2. Spacio Matika, local title spàcio, the place to experience the tastes, smells and the singing of the local maritime heritage;
3. Mali Škver (Little Shipyard), local title peîcio squèro, the place to celebrate the intangible heritage of the batana’s construction;
4. Rovinj’s regatta (known simply as Regata) of traditional wooden boats with mainly lateen and lugsails, Rovinj’s main celebration of boats, the sea and sailors; (Rovinj Archipelago- mid-June)
5. The Batana on oars Regatta is a young regatta held in memory of Corrado Pellizzer, one of the first promoters of this type of competition. It is entirely dedicated to the batana boat and the competition takes place in three categories: senior, junior, and lady; (Rovinj Archipelago- in mid-September).
6. Batana's routes, from Mali Mol to Spacio Matika and along the Rovinj waterfront, consist of two thematic routes. The first is by sea, accompanied by a boatman, while the second is a walk along the waterfront, providing visitors with the opportunity to experience Rovinj from "Batana's perspective".
7. The "Batana's Walk" application enhances the sightseeing experience with a free virtual guide through Rovinj's maritime heritage and is available for IOS and Android platforms.
8. The souvenir shop "ʃutalateîna", located on the shore of Aldo Rismondo no. 2, is a place of inspiration and creativity, reflected in numerous handmade art objects. It also serves as a useful information point for visitors.
